The Cretan Syndrome

The Cretan Syndrome has been mentioned many times by Turkish Cypriot leaders and legends, including Rauf Denktaş. The events of Crete is a true example of what could have happened in Cyprus if the Greek Cypriot fascists were successful with their Enosis campaign

In 1821, 47% of the island was Muslim, but by 1920 it was only 7%. In 1923, following the Treaty of Lausanne, there were no Cretan Turks that remained on the island.
